Tantra
Sacred Sexuality
Tantra is a belief system which originated in India and it represents a mix
of Buddhist and Hindu practices that may not be described as moral by either
faith. But they have proven effective and practitioners testify that tantra is a
valid and short path to enlightenment.
Tantra over recent years in the West has often been seen as a synonym for
unbridled sexuality and hedonistic indulgence; however this is an erroneous view
as sexuality is only one facet of this elaborate spiritual practice.
While tantra is typically seen as amoral, it is normal in the sense that the
tantric practitioner must do no harm and essentially tantra is harmonious with
Buddhist ethics.
Tantra is a lifestyle which incorporates all life elements including sexuality,
but at a deeper level provides a system of integrating with the god/goddess
principals to assume their attributes.
At its core, tantra is a system of uniting one's soul with that of the God or
Goddess and thus fills a spiritual vacuum that exists within mainstream Western
religions and a deep study of tantra can take a lifetime, and it's not for the
undisciplined or the thrill-seeker, especially when it comes to sacred
sexuality.
Like all spiritual traditions, the objective is the realisation and integration
of with the divine principal in it's broadest aspect. This creates a very real
danger for novices playing with tantra without the supervision of a teacher as
the realisation of the divine principal can lead to experiences that literally
blow people minds and mental health problems and insanity can result. So proceed
with caution!
For any serious seeker of truth, I recommend attending institutions in the
Tibetan tradition of his Holiness, the Delhi Llama.
